The major wedding events will be taking place on Saturday 3/29/25 in Los Angeles. There will be pre-wedding festivities on Wednesday and Thursday the preceding week in Bakersfield, CA, which is an approximately 2 hours north of Los Angeles. We recognize that this an infeasible commitment for many invitees, and we don't want anybody to feel obligated to take the whole week off (seriously!). Those who are able to make the trek are welcome at these events.
Negative, ghostrider. We want to make it as possible as possible (as possible) for the people we love (yes, even you) to attend the key parts of the celebration. On Saturday we will have the Anand Karaj (Sikh marriage ceremony) beginning at 9:00 AM and Jewish-American ceremony at 5:30 PM, followed by the reception. It will be a long day!
I've already gotten so many questions about this that I made a whole separate page dedicated to making sure everybody feels confident in their fashionable attire.
You can expect to see people in full hair and makeup, I fear.
The Indian ceremony starts with the Baraat (groom's processional) which is a mobile family dance party, following by the Milni (meeting of the families) which is not dissimilar from how you would imagine arriving in Hawaii. After this exhausting work of dancing and exchanging garlands there will be a light breakfast. The the guests will take their seats for the Anand Karaj, which is a series of readings, hymns, and blessings lasting approximately 60 minutes. At the conclusion of the ceremony, priests will pass out karah prashad which is a holy food composed of gram flour, sugar, and ghee. After that, we will all head back to the hotel for the Langar (community lunch).
Important social norms to observe during the Anand Karaj include 1) Keeping your head covered upon entry and for the duration of the ceremony 2) Removing footwear before entering 3) Paying respect to the Guru Granth Sahib (holy text of the Sikh religion) by kneeling and touching your forehead to the floor. If you are uncertain, watch what others are doing. You will see people giving small bills before they pay their respects; this is a donation to the church for people who feel freely moved to do so. You are welcome but not obligated to contribute a dollar or two of your own. 4) Maintaining silence during the service 5) Sitting on the ground unless prevented from doing do for health or mobility reasons 6) While sitting, avoiding pointing your feet towards the holy text 7) If offered karah prashad, receive it by cupping your hands and then hold it in your left palm while picking pieces to eat with your right hand.
The Jewish ceremony will be more of a Jewish-ish ceremony and will begin with the guests taking their seats followed by some prepared words, exchanging of vows written by the couple, and a few Jewish wedding traditions. After the ceremony we will proceed to Cocktail Hour at the same venue. The only expected social norm is to keep side conversation to a minimum, and people may cover their heads if they choose to do so.
Your children under the age of 18 are invited and welcome. Please just make sure you fill out the information on the RSVP, as they do count towards our total number of guests!
Our wedding venue strictly requires an exact headcount. This includes all children. We have worked hard to consider additional loved ones that should be included, and this will be reflected on invitations. If you are concerned that somebody has been overlooked, please reach out (and forgive our oversight!). Otherwise, please try to consider this as you submit your RSVPs.
Yup! I'm adding Photoshop and HTML to my CV.
No, there won't be any counterfeiting rings or karaoke. You're welcome. (Sumail isn't thrilled.)
I'm not a criminal justice professional, but it seems like there's a reason they often work in pairs. One of the major themes in Rush Hour 2 is that even though though Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have different perspectives and experiences, they're still partners. They have each other's backs, share a deep trust in moments of stress, and work together to overcome setbacks. The way they complement each other is their greatest strength (that and, you know, martial arts). They also mock each other pretty mercilessly. Their partnership has space for playful fun and serious work (obliterating gangsters) to coexist. They make mistakes but then they forgive each other and have a good laugh about it. Their visions of the future include extending the franchise of their partnership (Rush Hour 3). Really, what more could you want?
Our middle names are Lyons and Singh, which is Punjabi for lion. AWWWWWWWW.
